Pastel pink basket packed with decorated Easter sugar cookies

Easter is right around the corner, woohoo! Sometimes putting together a good Easter basket is kind of an art form.

Perhaps you're making one for your kids, your best friend, even for yourself, the basket itself matters just as much as what's inside it.

I’ve rounded up 13 Easter basket ideas that are equal parts adorable are and practical. So take a look, get inspired, and have fun with it!

There are no rules here, other than happy thoughts and maybe a little too much chocolate…if there’s such a thing!

1. Cookies Are the New Candy

Instead of filling the basket with the usual candy, swap it out for Easter-themed cookies! A pastel pink basket packed with decorated sugar cookies is such a cute and unexpected idea.

You can order them from a local baker or try your hand at making them yourself. Either way, they look gorgeous AND taste amazing. Fair warning though...the basket might not last long once people spot it.

2. Fill It to the Brim

I say it’s ok to go overboard with eggs! Pile as many as you can into a basket and call it a day.

Mix up the colors (pink, blue, yellow, purple…yes to all of it). And the fun is that each plastic egg holds its own hidden surprise inside. You can pop candy, small toys, or even a little sweet note inside each one.

Plus, mini baskets like these are super affordable and easy to find at any dollar or craft store.

3. Swap White Wicker for Pale Blue

White wicker baskets are classic, no question. But why not try a pale blue one? The color is so springy!

Line it with floral tissue paper instead of the usual shredded filler and now you have a completely different look for Easter. It's such a small swap that makes a big difference. Look for pale blue baskets at Target, HomeGoods, or even thrift stores around Easter time.

Natural wicker Easter basket with speckled eggs that look like real bird eggs

4. Natural and Speckled Is So Underrated

If you love a more earthy, organic look, this one’s for you. A simple natural wicker basket paired with speckled eggs that look like real bird eggs is such a pretty combo. It’s a tad more grown up and less plastic-y, which is a nice change.

You can find speckled eggs at most craft stores, or even DIY them with a little paint and a toothbrush for that splatter effect.

Hand-decorated Easter sugar cookies with piped rosettes and little purple flowers

5. Cookies That Are Almost Too Pretty to Eat

The key word here is almost.

Fill your Easter basket with sugar cookies that are genuinely works of art. It’s an Easter basket of cookies…that are Easter basket cookies! Hand-piped rosettes, little purple flowers, basket-weave frosting details, the whole thing.

Each cookie is decorated differently, which makes them even more fun to dig through. Be warned that people might not even want to eat them. (They will though. They always do.) Look for a local baker or search Etsy for custom decorated sugar cookies. Your Easter baskets will never be the same!

Pink Easter basket finished with a pretty bow

6. A Little Bow Goes a Long Way

Never underestimate what a good bow can do. It takes a plain pink basket from just alright to really cute.

The best thing is that you don't need a fancy basket to start. A simple wicker one from the dollar section works perfectly. Just tie on a ribbon (floral, gingham, satin…all great options), fluff it up into a bow, and done! The eggs practically style themselves after that.

Sparkly sequin Easter eggs nestled among softer pastel eggs

7. Upgrade Your Basket with Sequin Eggs

Instead of filling your basket with only plain plastic eggs, throw in a few of these sparkly, shimmery, sequin-covered eggs! They catch the light, they stand out against the softer pastel eggs, and they make the whole basket look like you spent way more time on it than you actually did!

Find them at craft stores, Target, or Amazon and just grab as many as you can!

Foil-wrapped chocolate Easter eggs piled in a wicker basket

8. Foil Wrapped Chocolate Eggs Forever

Really, what’s better than foil-wrapped chocolate eggs? They're so satisfying to unwrap (if you’re patient enough to get it all foil off!) and they look amazing piled up in a wicker basket.

It's one of those ideas that's both simple and totally crowd-pleasing. Grab a big bag from the store and just fill that basket up.

Plain pastel eggs decorated with colored markers by kids

9. Let the Kids Decorate the Eggs

This one is equal parts activity and Easter basket idea, and that's what makes it so great! Grab some plain pastel eggs and set out a bunch of colored markers and let the kids go wild decorating them.

Once they're done, nestle the eggs into a rustic wicker bowl with some green Easter grass. It's handmade, it's personal, and every single egg will be one of a kind.

Pink burlap bunny bag used as a cute Easter basket and shelf decoration

10. The Basket That's Also a Decoration

Using a little pink burlap bunny bag as a basked is adorable! Even if it was completely empty it would look great sitting on a shelf or a mantle.

You have tons of options for filling it up, but the best part is you can reuse it every year as a decoration even after the goodies are gone. I’d call that a two for one win.

Easter eggs in rich jewel tones of deep purple, teal, and magenta

11. Skip the Pastels, Go Jewel Toned

Pastels are the usual go-to for colors, but have you considered jewel tones for Easter eggs? Deep purples, rich teals, bold magenta. It's a vibrant twist on your Easter basket. Highly recommend trying it!

Easter basket box decorated to look like a white picket fence

12. Picket Fence Basket

Need some creative ideas for your basket? Well, this box is decorated to look like a white picket fence. It’s the kind of Easter basket idea you just don't see every year. And that's exactly what makes it so special and memorable!

If you can’t find these at craft stores you can DIY one

Rustic burlap-wrapped Easter basket with a cottage-style look

13. Burlap Wrapped Basket

Last but not least, we’re heading in a different direction for this one. You can go for a rustic, cottage-y feel with a burlap wrapped basket.

The good news is it's pretty easy to recreate at home. Grab some burlap ribbon and a little faux moss (or dried flowers) from the craft store, wrap your basket handle, and you're basically there.

The whole basket looks like it belongs in a garden, which is the vibe you’re going for.
