There are some lines that stick with you. Not because they’re trying to sound impressive, but because they say something honest and direct. A strong quote can alter how you see things or get you thinking about something in a new way.
I’ve come across these a lot in nonfiction. Especially in memoirs and biographies. And what’s so great about them is that they carry real insight from real people who’ve lived through the hard stuff and made sense of it!
I find it inspiring to hear from people who’ve failed, figured things out the long way, and lived to tell it straight.
They encourage me to rethink how I’ve been approaching something. And sometimes, they help me see someone else’s struggle more clearly, which makes me more human too.
If you’re in the same boat, then read on for thoughtful quotes from non-fiction books!
How to Actually Use Book Quotes
These kinds of quotes can be used as a way to check in with yourself and ask better questions. After all, they’re meant to inspire new thoughts.
If you journal, they’re great starting points to go deeper than surface-level reflections. If you’re in conversation, they might give you something worth sharing that moves small talk into a deep conversation. No worries about trying to memorize them all! Just keep them nearby and come back when you need them.
Good Times to Reference Book Quotes
There’s no such thing as right or wrong. Use them whenever you want! But here are a few suggestions.
Read one after you wake up, when you’re getting started for the day. Look to them when a decision’s on your mind and you’re weighing things out. If you’re feeling stuck or second-guessing yourself, revisit a line that’s helped before. They can also give your journaling more depth or help you see a creative block from a better angle.
Or maybe you don’t need a big reason. Post a few in a spot that you see everyday and enjoy a moment of something honest to read.
